What the hell was that? Who were all those girls and things? Why are you doing this to me?
Look man, it’s nothing personal. It’s all explained here in
t all started with my "Next Time:"
tag for Stickman number four. I mentioned doing "The Battle
of the Sexes" or something, which was on my mind because of
a conversation I was having with Frank. Then I realized I actually
had to follow through, and that’s when the problem that keeps plaguing
this comic like some sort of..plague, cropped up. I can’t draw. Now, I
find my particular style (read: lack of skill) well suited to drawing
guys because I find the male form to be inherently ugly. The female
form however, seemed out of my reach, even in the most cartoony sense of
just conveying that this is a GIRL. While bemoaning this to a friend,
it was suggested that I just have someone who can draw do it. A guest
artist...I don’t know. Wait, what about FIVE guest artists. Each
interpreting the girl their own way. I’ll have them work independently,
and with only enough information to know where to put her in a frame. I
then asked a bunch of people to help, and immediately began putting off
my side of the job. On the upside, this meant several installments of
Stickman where I could reuse the same joke in the "Next Time"
slot. That part was nice.
Eventually I drew the actual comic. It’s one of the few that was started before 1AM. I then made five copies, each with everything but the title, and all but one panel blacked out. I blacked out the text in that panel as well. I sent these to the five people. Slowly but surely I got them back. Then it was the simple task of recombining everything into one happy little picture. A few resizes here and a redrawn line there, and you have our finished product. So yes, that’s the same girl in every picture, it’s just a lot of different versions of her.
The strip itself was different to write. It's a return to the classic "talking head" style of stickman, which I haven't really done in a while. Coming up with dialogue wasn't hard, it was wording it to be funny that took time. This is one of many times where I've sat there with one panel to go trying to come up with a worthy closing joke. Then there were problems with the gutter joke of Carl wearing the dress. No one seemed to know it was Carl, so it wasn't funny. I tied that loose end by adding another gutter joke of stickman and the girl that identified him. Then I started getting my submissions back. First up was the always lovely Frank. He started with some NES sprites, but decided to do a female version of Inner Bunny. Inner Bunny being the ultimate cartoonal manifestation of Frank's inner psyche. Only now as a girl. The ramifications of the female version are startling. Then there was Mobius, who originally suggested that he would redo his, but later decided to stick with the Vagina. I post stuff by the roth, so who am I to argue? Rob finished his fairly quickly, only to redo it in the kick ass color version. The next one was supposed to be done by Corey Yurtinus, be he flaked out, so our mutual friend Duffy stepped in and delivered his own version of a stick woman with flying colors. Last came Sean's, complete with some kind of vague Lewinsky refrence. Some cut and paste later, and we have the finished product.
There’s alternate version of the end, where Stickman tries to ask her out, and as he stumbles she threatens him with pepper spray. I decided not to use that, because I like the girl character as she played out and didn’t want her to become a colossal bitch. Plus it seemed too easy a joke to make the female the Bad Guy.
There are also Multiple version of some of the girls. You can see them below.

Why, it's Metroid's Samus! Pretty much the first videogame female to not be held in a castle, Samus is an inspiration to women everywhere! |
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? apparenlty Rit, of Rodland does. for his second attempt Frank used one of the character's from the kickass game Rodland. But not just any character. When at the name entry screen in the NES version, if you enter your name as a "bad word", like fuk, poo, or ass, your character... blushes or something. This one was acheived by renaming the character Tit. |

This was the turning point. Frank left Nintendo behind and tried drawing Inner Bunny as a female. Note here that even while he has been colored pink, Inner Bunny exudes masculinity. It took quite a while to get it looking lady like. |
This is Rob's first version of the girl. I've got to say, when I received this relatively normal entry I was more that a little relieved. | ![]() |
And for your viewing pleasure, here are the girl picture’s as I got them from each artist, before I put them into the comic.
Finally, the comic I drew of placeholder art is available so you can see what pure, simple ideas were twisted by these bastards. Continue onward to see it.
