I have serious issues with the word "exclusive", and how it is used in our society. Specifically, it's treated as a good thing, which of course, it isn't. The two main uses are with journalism, fairly benign really, since the information is still disseminated, and in establishments, such as restraunts or country clubs. This is what bothers me. Exclusive, prone to exclude. The idea, the reason it shows up in ads, is that it makes you feel special when you're there. Not just anyone is allowed, but YOU are. YOU'RE one of the lucky ones. Of course, that's bullshit in the first place, but look at the subtext. Who is being excluded? These days it's basically just the poor, but we're really not too far from it being black people. Jews. Women. That's what the word means in this context. It's not a happy exciting word. At best it implies a great deal of snobbery. A club that only lets the coolest people in. At worst it glorifies historic racism and sexism as an appealing sign of quality.

It is with this in mind that I announce, once and for all, that I really like The Faculty. It's an awesome movie, and I don't care what anyone thinks. Robert Rodriguez Rules!
